Bill Schall - Lower Toxicity Insect Pest Management on Native Plants Insect pest management (IPM) is sometimes a challenge with native plants, especially when harsh pesticides need to be avoided for healthy wildlife habitat and when new invasive insects keep arriving in Florida. It is estimated on average that 2.5 new insects become established in Florida every month. Additionally, stress to native plants that are mismatched with growing conditions can lead to greater pest and disease issues. Bill Schall will discuss some of the insect pests of Florida native plants and how to use integrated pest management strategies and lower toxicity insecticides to manage them. Bill Schall is a Palm Beach County Commercial Horticulture Extension Agent with 20 years experience in the nursery, landscape, and pest control industries. As part of the University of Florida IFAS extension service, Bill focuses on providing training and new research results for existing and startup nursery production, landscape and structural pests and pathogens.
